story_struggle
Before Snyk, Guy Podjarny had a successful career in web performance and security, but he noticed a massive disconnect. Security tools were built for security teams, not the developers actually writing the code. This created friction, delayed releases, and left applications vulnerable.
When he first pitched the idea of a developer-first security tool, many investors and industry veterans were highly skeptical. They believed developers simply didn't care about security and would never adopt or pay for security software voluntarily.
story_breakthrough
The defining breakthrough was ignoring the traditional top-down enterprise sales motion and adopting a Product-Led Growth (PLG) strategy. Guy and his team built Snyk directly into the tools developers were already using, like GitHub and npm.
By making it incredibly easy to find and fix vulnerabilities with a single click, Snyk turned developers into security champions. This bottom-up adoption created a viral loop within engineering teams, leading to massive enterprise contracts once Snyk became the de facto standard across organizations, skyrocketing the company to a multi-billion dollar valuation.
